I am so grateful I stumbled upon this podcast a few years ago. Listening to the first show I was literally on the edge of my seat. This happens to be my very favourite podcast by far. The delightful British humour and the personal stories of veterans are the best!!
Being born only 8 years after the war, Ww 2 was very fresh on every Canadian mind. Growing up I vividly remember memories of our legion members marching usually on a snowy Canadian winter day down the Main Street of our tiny village!
My father was able to finally get to England in the army of the occupation as a chaplain as he had to finish his studies in University of Saskatchewan and missed the action. Like my Father my uncle Ken volunteered but because of his high grades in uuniversity he was not allowed to go over. He then decided to start failing his classes in order to join up. One of his fellow students went to the recruitment office and said you need to let this guy go over and relayed the story to him. They decided to let him join up and was preparing to go over when he got news the war was over and Germany had surrendered. My uncle Ken it was they heard he was coming!!! He later joined the airforce and served overseas and in Canada in the RCAF serving throughout the Cold War on radar bases as a Sargent.
I am also very proud of my Goddaughter Captain Jennifer Hillman who just retired from the Canadian forces and also served our country as a major just before she retired.
Thank you for hosting the best podcast bar none. Sincerely Bruce Moffat. Grande Prairie Alberta
