Hello again and I wish you a very musical WW2 welcome to the Fighting Through second world war podcast. 

I’m Paul Cheall, son of Bill Cheall whose WWII memoirs have been published by Pen and Sword – in FTFDTH. 

The aim of this podcast is to hear family stories, memoirs, and interviews with veterans in all the countries and all the forces. I dare you to listen!

And if you could cry from smiling too much, then surely I’d be doing that too.

Because that’s the effect that bingeing on Kisses has had on me the last month. I’m talking about Kisses on a Postcard, by the late Terence Frisby. Today I’m interviewing son Dominic Frisby and what an absolute corker of an episode I can promise you.

In the intro you heard some fleeting glimpses into what’s on offer.

Dominic’s work is full to bursting with Dunkirk spirit, steam trains and all the best of WW2 Britishness. As the Kisses on a Postcard musical charts the lives of two young British evacuees during WW2. 

On my show so far we’ve coincidentally heard from various people whose youth overlapped the events of 1939-45. We’ve heard from German Volker Verum who jumped his Russia-bound train when it conveniently passed through his home town. Jean Lindsay told us about her life as a young girl living near bombed out Great Yarmouth. Then there was my dear old late mum working in a Lancashire ordinance factory at the age of 18. Lately we’ve heard the memoirs of German boy soldier Willi Langbein who started off his war as a child evacuee. 

Now it gives me great pleasure to introduce Kisses on a Postcard by Dominic Frisby.

Today’s episode brings to life so much that we’ve previously heard about in the Fighting Through Podcast. Rationing, the Blitz, Evacuation of children to far away places. 

There are so very many parallels with memories we’ve covered in the podcast. Kop has brought them to life.
